Match 9: Abu Dhabi Knight Riders vs. Desert Vipers

Desert Vipers 219 for 4 (Hales 110 (↑60%), Cottrell 3/14 (↑22%)) beat Abu Dhabi Knight Riders 108 for 10 (Russell 57 (↑31%), Kumara 2/31 (↓2%)) by 111 runs.

The home team won the toss in Abu Dhabi and decided to chase, following the chasing trend in the UAE. They picked an early wicket of Rohan Mustafa in the first over as well. But ADKR had no idea what was coming their way. Colin Munro(↑9%) joined Alex Hales(↑60%) in the middle, and carnage started for the Knight Riders.

Both the batters combined for a massive 164-run stand, which came in 95 deliveries. Munro wasn’t as fluent as Hales, but he supported him well. The partnership was finally broken when he departed for 56 runs. Alex Hales(↑60%) kept going and smashed the first hundred of the DP World T20 League. The late cameos from Sherfane Rutherford and Tom Curran(↑7%) powered the Vipers to 219 for 4 in 20 overs.

The Abu Dhabi team was hoping for a solid start in a steep run chase. But, things went exactly opposite to it as Sheldon Cottrell(↑22%) ran through their top order. He picked up 3 wickets in his opening spell, and the chasing side were 4 down in the powerplay. ADKR never got out of the early stutter and were reduced to 7 for 54 at the halfway stage.

The game was already all over for them, but Andre Russell(↑44%) wasn’t done yet. He played a blazing innings of 57 runs in 29 balls to take his side past the 100-run mark. However, the Knight Riders were all out for 108 and lost the game by 111 runs. With this win, Desert Vipers have risen to the top of the points table, whereas ADKR have slipped to the bottom after 4 straight losses.
