Lahore Qalandars defeated Multan Sultans in the final to become the first team in PSL history to defend their title. Shaheen Shah Afridi(↑83%) became their captain in 2022, and they have won both editions under his leadership. For Multan, it was their second successive loss in a PSL final.

Final: Multan Sultans vs. Lahore Qalandars


Lahore Qalandars 200 for 6 (Shafique 65, Shaheen 44 & 4/51(↑83%)) beat Multan Sultans 199 for 8 (Rossouw 52(↑6%), Usama 3/24) by 1 run.


Lahore Qalandars decided to bat first after winning the toss in the final. Mirza Tahir Baig looked impressive for his 18-ball stay that produced 30 runs. Fakhar Zaman(↑1%) struggled for his 39 runs and consumed 34 balls for it. Sam Billings, Ahsan Bhatti, and Sikandar Raza(↓7%) soon followed him as the Qalandars slipped from 95 for 1 to 112 for 5. Only 35 balls were left in the innings, and Lahore needed to finish big. Abdullah Shafique and Shaheen Afridi(↑83%) stitched a 66-run partnership in 27 balls. Abdullah played a high-class innings of 65 off 40 while Shaheen thrashed 44* off just 15. The Qalandars scored exactly 200 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.

The Sultans started the chase on a high by scoring 40 runs in the first 3 overs. Then, David Wiese(↓1%) dismissed Usman Khan to control the flow of runs. Rilee Rossouw(↑6%) got the momentum back with a 32-ball 52 before getting bowled by Rashid Khan(↑5%). At that point, 96 more runs were required off 57 balls. Soon, Mohammad Rizwan(↑0%) fell for 34, and all the responsibility was on the duo of Kieron Pollard and Tim David(↓9%).

They took the game deep, and the last 5 overs needed to go for 60 for Multan. The skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi(↑83%) picked 4 wickets in his last 2 overs to put his side in touching distance with the trophy. With 35 runs needed in the last 2 overs, Haris Rauf conceded 22 in the penultimate over. Zaman Khan gave just 9 runs in his first 5 balls, and the last ball needed to go for 4 for Multan. Khushdil Shah(↑49%) placed the ball into the on-side, but he was run out while running the third run. The Qalandars won the most thrilling final in PSL history by just 1 run.

Multan Sultans were slightly ahead in the game, with Kieron Pollard and Tim David(↓9%) still at the crease after 15 overs. But Shaheen sent both of them to the pavilion and then got two more wickets to change the complexion of the game.
