Top run scorers in IPL 2022

But who was the leading run-getter in IPL 2022, and how many runs did he score to get the orange cap? Who were the top 5 run scorers in IPL 2022 edition, and what were their stats?

This blog will give you all the answers. Here, you will find all the key stats of the 5 highest run scorers in IPL 2022. So, keep reading.

Jos Buttler

If there was one guy who owned IPL this year, it must be Jos, the Boss. England’s white-ball skipper was the leading run-getter in IPL 2022. The destructive opener accumulated 863 runs in 17 outings to claim the orange cap. Not only was he the highest run scorer of the season, but he also became the batsman to score 2nd highest number of runs in a single season of IPL.

It won’t be wrong to say that Butler’s show with the bat in the 2022 season was key to Rajasthan Royal’s road to the final. These runs came at a dominating average of 57.33 and an astonishing strike rate of 149.05. In his 17 innings, he smashed 85 fours and 45 sixes, which is quite hard to believe. Consequently, almost 71% of his runs came in boundaries. He scored 4 half-centuries along with 4 tons in the 15th season of IPL. 4 hundred is the joint most (with Virat Kohli in IPL 2016) by a batsman in an IPL edition.

Although Butler played several top-notch innings during his IPL campaign, his best knock was against RCB in the 2nd qualifier. In that game, he plundered a 60-ball 106 with the help of 10 fours and 6 sixes. His superlative batting display drove his team to the IPL finals.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul is arguably the most consistent IPL batsman. In the last 5 IPL seasons, he has been averaging 50+ and has been one of the top scorers in each season. The same was the case this time, as he scored 616 runs in 15 innings at an average of 51.33. The strike rate of 135.38 is maybe just about par, but his consistency was unreal yet again.

KL Rahul‘s 616 runs came with the help of four 50s and two 100s. 360 out of these runs were scored in boundaries, which translates to 58%. The boundaries included 45 fours and 30 maximums. His contributions with the bat were crucial for Lucknow Super Giants to get to the playoffs.

KL’s best display with the bat came against Mumbai Indians, where he scored 103 off 60 balls. The knock included 9 fours and 5 sixes. His ton helped LSG secure an 18-run win over MI.

Quinton de Kock

Quinton was KL Rahul’s opening partner for Lucknow in the last season of IPL and wasn’t far behind him in scoring runs. QDK’s 508 runs came at an average of 36.29 in 15 innings, making him the 3rd leading run-getter in IPL 2022. Although the average is quite low as compared to Jos and KL, his strike rate of almost 149 is enough to tell about his effectiveness in the previous IPL season.

During his 15 outings, the southpaw thrashed 47 fours and 23 sixes. It means that 64% of his runs came in boundaries. Also, he managed 3 fifties and a brilliant hundred during the season. QDK’s best innings of the season were the best performance by any individual in the tournament as well.

In LSG’s last league match, de Kock played a gigantic knock of 140* off just 70 balls. It was the highest individual score of the tournament and comprised 10 fours and 10 sixes. In this match, he and KL Rahul combined to post 210 runs on the board in 20 overs without losing a wicket.

Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya was leading an IPL side for the first time, and he led them from the front with the bat. His 15 innings brought him 487 runs with the help of 49 fours and 12 maximums. So, 60% of his runs were scored in boundaries. Also, Pandya struck 4 half-centuries in the process, and his batting was one of the prime reasons behind Gujrat’s journey to lift the trophy.

He was the leading run-getter in IPL 2022 for Gujrat Titans and carried an impressive average of 44.27. However, the strike rate of 131.26 wasn’t as good as he would have liked. Pandya’s most impressive outing with the bat this season came in the first qualifier. Against Rajhastan Royals, his calculated 40* off 27 balls helped his side enter the finals.

Shubman Gill

\

He is hailed as India’s next superstar batsman, and the last IPL season showed why it is so. In his 16 innings, Gill managed 483 runs at an average of 34.5 and a strike rate of 132.32. During IPL 2022, he hit 51 fours and 11 sixes. Thus, the boundary percentage for him was 66%.

The elegant right-hander scored 4 half-centuries, but his best show with the bat came in the Gujrat Lions’ second match. Gill bunted a 46-ball 84 against Delhi Capitals with the help of 10 boundaries (6 fours + 4 sixes). His whirlwind knock allowed his team to secure a 14-run victory.
