Quetta Gladiators needed to pull off the third-highest T20 chase in history to stay alive in the tournament. Many thought the match was already done and dusted, but the opening partnership of 41 runs in 17 balls made things interesting. Martin Guptill(↑4%) got out after scoring 21 off 8 while Jason Roy carried on.

He and Smeed combined for a 109-run stand, which took only 55 deliveries. Then, Roy was involved in another stunning partnership. He and Hafeez scored 95 runs together in just 38 balls. The latter smashed 41 off 18 as Quetta cruised to victory with 10 balls to spare. Jason Roy played one of the finest T20 knocks by scoring 145* in 63 deliveries.

The Zalmi were well and truly ahead at the halfway stage. But a rapid opening start turned the momentum in Gladiators’ favour.
