Dubai Capitals Rope In Joe Root for ILT20

Joe Root signed by the Dubai Capitals

England’s superstar cricketer, Joe Root, is the latest signing of Dubai Capitals. Dubai Capitals have announced several additions to their squad in the last few days, including that of Robin Uthappa and Yusuf Pathan. Now, Root’s inclusion adds plenty of depth to their batting lineup.

A Look At Root’s Career and Stats

Joe Root has been a part of the famous Fab 4 quartet for several years. His class and consistency make him one of the modern-day greats in world cricket. At the age of 31, he has 10,629 test runs to his name, along with 28 hundreds and 55 half-centuries. In ODIs, Root has piled up 6,207 runs with the help of 36 fifties and 16 tons. His average is 49.43 in Test cricket and 50.05 in the One Day Internationals. These stats are enough to show the legacy of England’s maestro.

But, his contributions to England Cricket are not only limited to these two formats. Joe has represented England in 32 T20 Internationals, scoring 893 runs. He went past the 50-run mark five times in the format. Root was a key figure in England’s batting lineup during the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. He helped the English side to reach the final of the tournament. His scintillating knock of 83 runs in 44 balls helped England to chase down 229 runs against South Africa.

While Joe has been the backbone of England’s batting lineup in Tests and ODIs, he hasn’t played a T20I for them since 2019. The main reason behind his T20 omission is the abundance of hard-hitting talent in the country. A T20I strike rate of 126.3 hasn’t helped him retain his place in the format.

His Involvement In Overseas T20 Leagues

It will just be Root’s second foreign T20 league. His previous involvement in such a tournament was in the Big Bash League 2018-2019 season. He was a part of the IPL 2018 auction but unfortunately went unsold. Now, he has put his name up again for the 2023 mini-auction. Getting signed by the Dubai Capitals might also help his chances there because the same company also owns the Delhi Capitals team.
